My Series 2 Tivo is dieing, or at least I think it is. I am actually not sure if the problem is with the Tivo box or with the Comcast cable box. I not seeing any pictures on certain channels, I can still hear the audio but no pictures, at first it was just one or two channels but now its getting worse. If I reset the Tivo the pictures come back for awhile, but then go away again, which is the reason I think its Tivo. The other wierd thing thats happening is now if I hit a channel where there is no picture, instead of staying there, the system starts moving up and down the channels untill it finds one that is coming in. It hadn't done that before, just started happening a week ago. I could get a new series 2 tivo pretty cheap, the problem with that is that I am thinking about upgrading to an HDTV, which would make the series 2 Tivo useless. I was hoping to have this tivo last untill I got the new TV, but it looks like that not going to happen. I am going to test the Tivo, without the cable box and just attach to basic cable to see if the problem persist, so I can elimininate the cable box as the source. I will need to find a way to transfer the video from this tivo to my other one easily. I don't think I can stand being without Tivo and neither can my husband.
I was filling out a application to be a beta tester on the new Joost, One of the question they ask is if you are a TV addict, I answer yes. The truth is I am becoming an on line video and video podcast junkie. I spend more time on my computer watching video either on line or ones I download using the Democracy Player, The television that I do watch is recorded through Tivo, there is very little that I watch live, except sports. Recently for some reason I was watching a show live and I kept trying to fast forward through a particularly annoying commercial. My husband was quick to point out that I couldn't fast forward on live TV. I am old enough to remember when there were only the 3 main channels and a couple of local channels, and being excited when we got our first color TV. I couldn't picture going back to that type of service. The one advantage that it did have was everyone had to watch the same thing. That one advantage though was not worth the remaining disadvantages. I love being able to watch a show when I want to. My work schedule is constantly changing, so being able to record shows and watch them later, is a real convenience. I also watch a lot of video that I download from the Internet or watch on line. It is hard to fine good shows about technology on TV, other then general interest shows, so I have started to find videocast on line about technology. So far I have feeds to DL.TV, Hak5, MacBreak, Scobel Show, Cranky Geeks, Commandn and Labrats. There are a few nontech video cast that I watch including Wild Chronicle, The Movie Show, Track-shun.tv, and Terra the nature of our world, I also watch on line videos such as those on Youtube, Revver and Blinkxs. One of the reason I am interested in on line video is the opportunity to view video from around the world, and to get different viewpoints.
